After coming home from a long day at work, the last thing you probably want to do is exercise. After all, exercise is exhausting right? Well, you may be in for a surprise: even moderate exercises can energize you.
To get the energy-boosting effects of exercise, you only need to do it for about a half hour. After thirty minutes of moderate exercise, you’ll not only be more energized, you will also sleep better at night and experience a boost in your mood.
If you’re just starting out, aim for fifteen minutes two to three days a week. You can increase the time you spend once your body gets used to it (and once you find out how fun it can be!)
Remember, don’t ever force your body to do something if it hurts. If you feel pain, stop doing the activity. Easing into an exercise routine will help you avoid getting an injury.
To help you begin making moderate exercise part of your daily routine, here’s a list of fun and easy exercises that will help you reap the benefits of physical activity right away. Enjoy!
1. Walk the walk
Walking is one of the best exercises you can do. Not only is it easy, but you can do it virtually anywhere. Try walking around your neighborhood, or go to a park and take advantage of the hiking trails. Encourage your family to walk with you and you’ll find yourself burning calories while you bond with your family and enjoy the outdoors. A win, win, win!
2. Discover yoga
Yoga is an effective exercise that energizes both your body and soul. Ease into a yoga routine by learning the basic yoga positions first. A five-minute yoga routine can perk you up and recharge your body. Use yoga to energize yourself in the morning or relax before going to bed at night.
3. Have fun with sports
Playing sports like basketball, football, baseball, tennis or badminton is a great way to exercise while having fun. Many doctors recommend playing sports as an effective way to stay fit and healthy. Remember, playing sports doesn’t have to be too serious - just shooting some hoops with a friend is a great way to moderately exercise while having fun.
4. Join exercise programs at work
If your work sponsors an exercise program, sign up for it. Having that extra support from your colleagues can help you stick to your goals. If your work doesn’t have an exercise program, why not start it? Start talking to your boss and co-workers about setting up an office fitness challenge or participating in a fun-run together. This can be a great way to exercise while bonding with your co-workers.
5. Make household chores your exercise
Multi-task by getting your exercise in while doing chores around the house. Gardening, raking leaves, lawn mowing, doing the laundry, vacuuming and car washing are all effective moderate exercises. Make the most out of doing these chores by sweating and burning off calories. If you make household chores part of your exercise routine, you’ll have a clean house and a healthy body.
From a better outlook on life to a fitter body, you’ll be surprised about how quickly you will see results when you make exercise part of your daily routine.
